You can put
your canoe or kayak in at the boat landing, across the street from Tranquillity Lodge:
a 150-year-old barn which offers 8 rooms, each with its own bathroom in a
country rustic setting, as well as a room for our handicapped visitors.
Before you set out on a day of paddling enjoy fresh brewed Carabassett coffee,
tea or cocoa, or a full breakfast at any of our
local country restaurants.
 The gorgeous sunrises and sunsets over the mountains are breathtaking.
The views of the Bigelow Mountains & Preserve bordering Flagstaff Lake are
beautiful, especially in September and October during the Fall Foliage season!
There are small islands to stop and have a picnic lunch while you enjoy the
views... Flagstaff Lake is host to an abundance of wild life... loons, bald
eagles, golden eagles, great blue herons, moose, fox, deer, ducks and geese.
Don't forget your binoculars and cameras!
The Dead River runs into Flagstaff Lake which is also part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail
( http://www.northernforestcanoetrail.org/),
a 740-mile historic paddling route used by Native Americans, European settlers
and Benedict Arnold with his troops when he made his famous "March to Quebec"
in 1775. The Dead River Historical Society is open summers for more
information about the area!
 You'll have a great time paddling "our best kept secret" in Stratton Maine on
Flagstaff Lake. Come stay at the most tranquil lodge in the
